What DraftPeople does

DraftPeople lets people suggest trusted individuals for public service, express support for possible offices, discover community suggestions in their districts, let a drafted person claim and manage a profile, or let a person step forward without an earlier draft. The U.S. public pilot supports the federal and state offices produced by district lookup and was initially tested in Pennsylvania.

Support when a person steps forward

When you step forward for an office, claim a community draft and keep considering it, or accept its invitation, DraftPeople records one expression of support from you. Public totals disclose when they include the person shown without identifying other supporters. Declining an office removes that self-support, and support can otherwise be withdrawn. This expression is used in DraftPeople ranking and future platform thresholds, but it is not a petition signature, vote, contribution, ballot-access qualification, or legal eligibility determination.

What DraftPeople does not do

DraftPeople does not place anyone on a ballot, determine legal eligibility, certify a petition, register a campaign, guarantee an identity, predict votes, or provide legal advice. Accepting a DraftPeople invitation is recorded for the particular office shown; filing and ballot qualification are separate statuses. Outside authorities may apply their own definition of candidate or campaign activity.

Campaign-finance responsibility

If you accept an office invitation or publish an office-specific campaign website, you are responsible for determining and meeting applicable campaign-finance, registration, disclaimer, and reporting requirements. Keep records of money, goods, services, debts, website or hosting costs, and other things of value received or spent. Federal, state, and local rules differ, and obligations may begin before fundraising or formal ballot filing.

Your responsibilities

Use Step Forward for yourself and the community invitation flow only for another person. Use accurate information and only link to public profiles you reasonably believe belong to the person named. Do not impersonate someone, fabricate support, coordinate harassment, publish private information, evade a person’s choice to hide a profile, or use DraftPeople for unlawful activity. You are responsible for content and outside links you submit.

Identity claims and corrections

A verified email establishes account control but does not guarantee legal identity. A self-created profile is labeled as such. When someone claims a community draft by email, DraftPeople may ask the original drafter once to confirm that the claimant is the person intended. Optional Facebook verification provides a different, stronger assurance by connecting the Facebook account linked to the card.

Every method can be mistaken or abused. DraftPeople may connect likely duplicates, ask supporters to review a match, administratively confirm or undo a wrongful claim, or hide a disputed card while it is reviewed. A person who does not want a public card may hide a confirmed profile or submit a private removal request.

Moderation

DraftPeople may investigate reports and hide, restore, restrict, or remove content or access when reasonably necessary for safety, accuracy, legal compliance, or service integrity. Moderation actions should be proportionate, reversible when practical, and recorded for accountability. Repeated or serious abuse may result in account restrictions.

Outside services and links

Public profiles may link to websites, social networks, or campaign services that DraftPeople does not control. Their content, availability, privacy practices, and fees are their responsibility. Linking to a site does not mean DraftPeople endorses it.

Pilot availability

The pilot may change, experience interruptions, contain incomplete office information, or be suspended for maintenance or safety. DraftPeople is provided as available without a promise that every result is complete or error-free. Nothing here limits rights that cannot legally be limited.
